"Take the shoes from your feet for this is holy ground"

When Moses encountered God in the burning bush he was told to take off his shoes as a sign of reverence for the Lord's presence. We don't have to follow the same practice but there are some things we should always do to show that we are aware that in church we are in a sacred place:

1. Always turn off your mobile phone before coming into church - you are going to talk with the Living God so everyone else will have to wait.

2. When coming into church, when leaving, and when passing in front of the Tabernacle please be sure to genuflect as a sign of reverence for the presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

3. Please avoid unnecessary chatter and conversation in the church. It is a place to speak to God, not to exchange news or pass the time of day with others. Also it gives other people the quiet they need to pray without distractions.

4. Please do not eat, give food to children, or chew gum in the church. The only thing which should be consumed in this holy place is the Body and Blood of Christ.

5. Children are children, not statues, and they cannot be expected to remain silent for an hour. However, so that they are not a distraction to others please do not let them run around the church and, if they get too restless, please take them outside until they calm down.

6. Please respect the way that most parents do make a real effort to keep their small children quiet and don't glare, make unkind remarks or express irritation if one of the youngest members of our community (who doesn't understand what is going on anyway and is probably bored) gets a bit restless.

7. If it is at all possible, please try to arrive in the church in time for the start of Mass and stay until the end (which is when the celebrant leaves). Please do not unnecessarily wander around the church during the celebration of Mass as it distracts others.

These are just small things but they do show that we are aware of being in God's presence and also respect other people's right to worship in peace.

Church cleaners

We have a need to recruit some more volunteers to clean our two churches. This is done on a rota basis and so is not every week. It basically requires dusting and hovering, and can be done at any time at people's convenience as access can be arranged. If you are willing to help please call the Parish Office or have a word with one of the clergy.

Employment Opportunity As last time please.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK AND HOUSEBOUND
