2007 (Spring) News and Messages - 5.
Other photographs showed the various parishes in the Plymouth Diocese where he has served. Father Keith was presented with an illuminated card, designed by a parishioner, a Spiritual Bouquet, an album of the photographs on the display boards and a beautifully carved statue of St Anthony, the work of Tom Preater, a celebrated artist from Taunton. He also received many cards from parishioners and friends. Father Keith was presented with a Fifty Year Certificate and a Papal Blessing. His sisters were presented with bouquets.

In the Convent Magazine of 1957, there was a mention of Father Keith's Ordination, saying that Reverend Mother and Mother McEvoy attended. Immediately underneath, is a piece from Judith Downey asking for prayers for her brother being ordained in Rome. Father Michael Downey will celebrate his Golden Jubilee in October. He is the parish priest of the Sacred Heart & St Aldhem's Church in Sherborne, Dorset.

If you have access to the internet, you can read this and much more on the Convent website!

THERESA NICOL (BROOKS) &`NICK', who will have their GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY on 8th June, many congratulations; two sisters in the same year, a fine achievement !

LIONEL & ANNE SHOTLANDER (SPICER) celebrated their Sapphire Wedding Anniversary, 45 years.

JOHN and GAY DONLEVY (BROWNING) celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary, 40 years, last March. They enjoyed a break in Fiji. They have also welcomed their 8t" grandchild, Isaac John, born to their son James and his wife Gabe. Isaac is their 3rd child.

THERESA BARNES (YOUNG) and Mike were delighted that their 1st grandchild, Jack John, was born to their daughter Ariana and her husand, shortly before the death of her father, John.

Congratulations to KEVIN & CATRIONA ALLEN (ROSS) on the birth of a grandson, Jude Patrick; born to Brendan and his wife Becky.

PAUL & JAYNE LUCAS (MILLER) have become the new Editors of St. Peter's Past Pupils' Association Newsletters. Their first publication was very well produced and worthy of congratulations. Their second will appear at about the same time as ours. JAYNE moved from the Convent to St. Peter's. They met at Nick's Head, the Old Boys' Club room, named after Bro. Nicholas.

Paul and Jayne are keen to foster the links between the Convent and St. Peter's Past Pupils, both schools are connected to many families, we like to share news in common.

NEWS FROM PAST PUPILS

GLADYS ARCHER wrote in February, from London, thanking us for the Christmas Newsletter, which is always eagerly anticipated. She searches for mention of some of the many pupils whom she taught during her years at the Convent; sadly there seems to be little news from that age group. GLADYS taught at the STAKES, WATERLOOVILLE CONVENT FROM 1962 -70, when her husband was transferred to Bournemouth.

She taught in the Convent Junior School in Boscombe, until there was a vacancy in the Senior Department, where she remained until the closure in 1980. Gladys keeps in touch with SR.

JOAN KULLANDER, now in East Cowes, ANNE-MARIE BUTEMENT in Poole and JEAN WALSH in Sidmouth. Gladys never ceases to be amazed at our `old girls' in this country and in distant lands; she feels that their great successes in the professions and their dedication to good causes are a credit to their education at the Convent. Gladys is unable to travel much these days otherwise she would enjoy coming to a Reunion. We hope that you recognise more names in the future, Gladys.

I, MARY BROOKS remember Gladys during the year I taught at the Convent for the scholastic year 19781'79.

RENZA CRADDUCK has written from London to send her very best wishes to us all, in case she is not able to attend the Reunion, this year. She is reasonably well and has been advised to stay quietly in her flat for much of the time. RENZA would like to apologize to anyone who has written to her and not received a reply; some letters came to light recently, to which she has been unable to reply. She hopes that we are all well and enjoying the Summer days and brighter evenings.

We hope that Renza will be well enough to join us at the Reunion in the future.

GERALDINE NICHOLLS (MAHY) is always so good at keeping us up to date with Past Pupils news, when she hears it. She had a visit from VERONICA SKERMAN (BURTON), who lives in Charlton Marshall. Veronica's father owned the lovely shop Grovers in Boscombe Arcade.

FIONA JAKIELASZEK (COLLIE) has been over from Canada to celebrate her father's 80th birthday. By chance DAPHNE TAVENDER (HOPGOOD) met MARIE FODEN, a past pupil who is in charge of a Nursing Home in Wimborne.

JUDITH HARRISON (ELLARD)" had a great time at the Reunion," she is frequently in touch with MAUREEN BARRETT (McCORMICK), who gave her MARGARET CRISP'S address in Florida, so now they too are in touch again.

SHEILA CHENNELL (KIRRANE) found the name of VAL KENYON (DANIELLS) on the website and asked to be put in touch. I spoke to VAL on the `phone, she is well, having been made redundant she has a new administrative job with the police, which she is finding interesting and less stressful than her previous work. The joy of her life is her grandson Archie.

For many years VAL typed the newsletter from the rough copy for MARGARET SIMPSON (ATKINS) & later on MYSELF; until I was dragged into the 20th century world of computers. What a sterling job she did for the Association. SR. RUTH MARY BROWN heard from ANGELA DOWSON (WILLOUGHBY - MEADE), who was one of the last Boscombe Head Girls she knew.

Sr. Ruth and I wondered if anyone had news of JOY WINTERBOTTOM? We know she became a teacher and is about our age, so probably retired now. We welcome a new member, MARGARET SITNIN (GALVIN), who is now in Bournemouth. She keeps in touch with ANGELA GILLIC & MARY BARTLETT.

CAROLE CHEFFINGS (VENNER) was a Marydale pupil from 1957 into the 60s; she would like to make contact with former classmates. Can anyone help?

MARION PARKINSON (POOL) wonders if anyone has news of NILO SHOWELL (YIANNAKI), please. Does anyone know anything of ANNE TILLEY, please?

JACQUELINE RICHARDS (McCORMACK), who was at the Convent from September 1959 - June 1974 was a contemporary of SHAN WILSON MARY TEMPEST, MELANIE FULFORD, JULIE SIZE, CLAIRE O'NEIL, ANN GOODENOUGH, MARY FIRMIN, & SHEILA DUFF; JACQUI thinks it would be great to get in touch with more Past Pupils from the 60s and early 70s. She has lots of photos which we hope she will be able to bring to the Reunion.

JOAN CONROY(POWTER) wrote from New Zealand concerning the late PENELOPE ANNE LENTHALL (DAY) who was mentioned in the last newsletter. I put her in touch with PENNY'S son, Nicholas, JOAN lived in Colville Road near Penny, she and Joan's brother Paul were good friends, between the ages of 5 & 12. She has a photo of Penny aged about 5, which she will copy for Nicholas.

By coincidence, the day after Joan had read the Newsletter, she received an e-mail from Paul saying that he had visited Bournemouth, from his home in Sussex, and been to Colville Road. Their former home is still standing but Penny's had been demolished. The McFADDENS , SHEILA, MOIRA & JO lived opposite. Joan loves receiving the Newsletter.

DIANA BURLEIGH e-mailed me from Melbourne, Australia, in reply to a query from me. She was interested to hear of the death of John Young as they had lived 2 doors away from the YOUNGS in Morley Road. DIANA sent her condolences to THERESA and her family.
