PAST PUPILS' ASSOCIATION - 1940, Page three

J. Brewer has finished her course at St. James' and called in recently to see all her old friends.

S. Palmer hopes to begin her course at St. James' in the New Year.

We sympathise with J. Shoolbred on the death of her mother last February. Joan is a frequent caller.

Maire and Kitty Keenan write frequently. Maire has taken up Massage work, and Kitty has chosen Domestic Science.

E. Neville is not neglecting sport even though she is working hard. Her last letter tells us she won a Silver Cup for Horsejumping, and was amongst the winners in a Golf Competition. Well done, Eileen!

D. Spraggs is at Blue Anchor - she does not intend returning to Khartoum just now. She had hoped to come and see us during the summer, but could not manage it. She gave us news of S. Goldsmith, who is still at Barton, and told us that P. Winter has joined the W.A.A.F.S.

We were pleased to see Pat Everett when she called to give us the good news of her father's recovery from his bad accident.

What a surprise when Betty Baker Smith called last April. She had not told us of her whereabouts and actually announced herself by a " nom-de-plume," but she had not changed, so it was of no avail. We were sorry to hear that her father had died soon after she went out to Kenya.

B. and R. Carns have many interests in their new home at Buckfast - they take part in the A.R.P. activities there.

S. Smart writes from time to time - she is not continuing her Elocution at present, but hopes to take it up again later. She expressed the hope that the Ignatians were keeping up to standard.

Amongst the callers during the year were E. Davies, M. Scott, R. Donald, M. Hennessy, M. Lidbetter, B. Adamson, P. Gavaghan, N. Franks, M. Hitchcock, B. and R. Browning - all of whom are doing useful work locally. P. Daly continues her studies at the Art School. M. Wood called recently when down for a short holiday from London.

F. Vick is doing Commercial Studies in Poole.

Lourdes de Guimaraes writes very frequently - she told us of Lakime's serious illness a year ago. She is now recuperating. Lourdes talks of coming back to see us when this war is over.

We extend our sympathy to the McLoughlin family on the death - on Active Servic - of their brother Willie. R.I.P.

We are pleased to note the Social Activities of Eileen Mason, who was formerly French Secretary of the Federation of University Student's Bureau for foreign visits, and has now become Federation Secretary for Polish Relief. Thanks to her efforts the Federation is now in touch with many sad cases, particularly among Catholic Polish Students in London.

Gladys Sharman writes from Kenya she has made a splendid recovery from a recent serious operation. She thanks us for the prayers said for her.

This Christmas we shall all, Past Present, be united, praying especially those whose dear ones are in danger in our fighting forces.

May the Infant Jesus bless us all, and at His Crib let us ask Him teach us the purpose and value of suffering that by accepting the trials of this war in His spirit, we may show ourselves true Children of the Cross, and thus attain that peace which He came on earth to establish.
