GAMES NOTES 1954 - 1955

NETBALL

The fixture list seemed full and promising, but we had taken too little account of the unsettled English climate and also of that nasty little imp known as "flu", who showed undue activity during the Easter Term.

The 1st Team played Fernhill Manor and lost 17 - 19. Against St. Mary's Gate the 1st and Under 14 Teams won, 21 - 2 and 14 - 6.

In the Form matches play was very even on most occasions, particularly among the Senior Forms.

Inter-House matches roused much enthusiasm, and on the combined results of Senior and Junior Team matches the Xaverians gained most points.

An exciting spectacle in respect of costume and play resulted in a draw, 17 - 17.

To end the season a Day Girls v. Boarders match was arranged. The Day Girls won 14 - 10.


ROUNDERS

Convent v. Bournemouth School for Girls.   Under 15 Team lost 0 - 3.
Convent v. St. Anne's, Southampton.   Under 14 Team lost 0 - 3.

During the Rounders season, more girls have an opportunity of representing their House or Form, and interest is consequently increased. Form Netball Matches proved really exciting, and the Final between Form VI and Va was indeed an event. Va won by only a small margin, 1 - 0.

No record of the year's sports activities would be complete without a tribute to the excellent influence and most efficient work of the Games Captain, Susan Fisher. Her organisation was reliable and steady, and her own good spirit seemed to pervade.

One had the impression that, under her, girls were learning not merely to play games, but to play the game in its fullest sense.
