JUNE

A Cell Training Day for the Sodality of Our Lady, conducted by Father Bernard Bassett, S.P., was held at the Convent, and a group of senior girls attended the meetings.

Feast of Corpus Christi. A number of children made their First Holy Communion in the Convent Chapel. Father Baron, S.J., who said the Mass, spoke to the First Communicants and through them to us all of the precious gift of the Blessed Sacrament. Again this year, the Senior Choir was asked to sing the Mass in Corpus Christi Church; we look upon this as one of our greatest privileges.

Feast of the Sacred Heart. A large number of Day pupils came to Mass in the Chapel on this special Feast of the House.

In the after noon we all assembled in the Hall before the picture of the Sacred Heart and Father Baron read the renewal of the Act of Consecration. Following this, the whole School was present at Benediction in the Chapel.

Towards the end of June Public and School examinations began and we looked forward to the conclusion of these trials and to end of-term activities.

JULY

Parents and friends in large numbers accepted an invitation to a Musical evening. The followng programme was presented to a most appreciative audience who were impressed by the standard of the work.

The results must have been encouraging for Mother Gillard and Miss Gobell who devoted so much time and care to the organisation of the programme.

12th Bournemouth Catholic Development Fund Fete at St. Peter's School. The Household Stall once again fell to our lot and the girls were very generous in bringing goods to be sold.

16th. At the Bournemouth Mescal Festival our Under 14 Choir, conducted by Miss Gobell gained a Certificate and a very good criticism from the adjudicator. Congratuations to all concerned.

18th Garden Fete in aid of the Science Building Fund, organised and carried out by Form VI. This was a most successful under taking. The Fete was opened by Lady Isabella Stapleton-Smith (Maureen Mutlow), who, after an appropriate speech gave the word for us to tour the inviting-looking stalls.

She herself still so strangely dressed and disguised that few recognised her and really thought a celebrity had been invited, played her part by patronising the various stalls in turn.

The weather was most kind and before the end of the afternoon everything was sold-Bottle Stall, Ices, Sweets Stall, Home-Made Cakes, Hoop-la, Skittles and many side-shows and raffles encouraged us to spend generously and at the close, Clare Habgood, our Head Girl was able to hand over the sum of £30 to the Fund.

Reverend Mother, Mother Gillard, Mother Pannell and Miss Gobell took a group of Seniors to the Grail Festival of Psalms at the Albert Hall.

19th. The Senior Choir sang at the double wedding of Sheila and Moira McFadden in Corpus Christi Church.

21st. Sports Day. An enjoyable occasion but we had to keep our eyes on the weather. However, all the events were completed in time.

Prize Day ended a full and happy term and leaving School assuring them of the continued interest of the Nuns and Mistresses, encouraging them to keep in contact by joining the Past Pupils' Association.

AUGUST

We recuperate from all the exertions of the year although the G.C.E. candidates have no peace until results are published.
SEPTEMBER

With the beginning of a new School Fear comes the excitement of seeing whether any changes have taken place. The workmen were in possession of the upper regions of the Senior School and various adjustments had to be made, notably our entry in state through the Staff Door.

Mass of the Holy Ghost was celebrated early in the term to ask God's blessing on the Year's work, and we were again reminded by Father Baron, that all our daily activities are work for God and are the service asked of us during our School life.

Elections were held to select new officials for the year and Reverend Mother kindly presented the badges to them at the first School Assembly. Head Girl, P. Ryan. Games Captain K. Kitchen. House Captains, Campions, A. Dixon, Vice-Captain M. Mutlaw; Ignatians Y. Ryan, Vice-Captain and Games Secretary, J. Antonsen; Stanislausians, P. Lowe, ViceCaptain, K. Kitchen; Xaverians, J. Weeks, Vice-Captain J. Cabbold; Prefects, S. Cunnniffe, K. Cadogan, D. Wood.

OCTOBER

Mission Sunday. Our thoughts were turned to Missions throughout the world and Farm VI organised the collection of stamps for their benefit. Collections have been made in all the Forms and special prayers said. We thought specially of the Mbanga Mission where some of the French Nuns are working and those of us who had met her during the Pilgrimage to Lourdes were interested to know that Mere Grimmer had joined them.

In October a Cell of the Sodality of Our Lady was formed in the school and with such an enthusiastic leader as Miss Wood, we are sure that much good work will be done and we trust that more of the senior girls may begin to interest themselves in the movement.

31st. Annual School Dance. This event proved'. as popular and well attended as ever. Many Past Pupils as well as present pupils and their parents were present.

The Mavoress, kindly consented to judge the Fancy Dress, assisted by Mrs. Donlevy, and prizes were awarded to K. Flux (Dickary-Dock); J. Lloyd (My Fair Lady); C. Hutchmgs (Traffic Signs); P. Mornsson (Mary and her Lamba poodle); M. Donohue axed L. Gragg (She Knows You Know"; A. Hutchings (Rocket).

The Parents' Spot Dance prizes were won by Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt (Jean's parents).

NOVEMBER

Half-term holiday followed the Dance and we were given Tuesday as in addition to Monday in honour of the Coronation of Our Holy Father Pope John XXIII.

There was great excitement on the day we returned to School as classrooms had been converted into Stalls for the "Little Sale," organised to raise money for the Building Fund. The Needlework Room was full of most attractive fancy goods (all 'quiet sheep,' as one of the foreign pupils afterwards wrote) We hope you guess the meaning "quite cheap" and not that the general impression was one of quiet sheep.

All kinds of interesting toys were on sale in Form I Classroom and one little boy who had purchased a puppet replied indignantly when someone commented on his nice puppet. "This isn't a puppet; it's a rabbit." There were all kinds of attractive things for sale at the Holy Stall in the Art Room including lovely pictures.

Bags and boxes were in another room, cakes and sweets in another while the Gym room was devoted to Hoop-la and other side-shows. The whole morning was a very happy one for us all and if the Sale helped on the Building Fund, it certainly gave us very much pleasure as well.

13th. Feast of St. Stanislaus one of our House Patrons. The Stanislausians invited everybody to "What's My Line." The personalities were typical school characters and a comment as well as a mime was given. "Heard melodies are sweet but those unheard are sweeter" was the prelude to the appearance of a member of the School Orchestra; the typical Boarder caused much amusement to the audience.

The Panel one representative of each House, J. Harland, E. Hooper, A. Hutchins and D. Francis were quick in detecting but the last problem floored them all. This was Madame Celebrity who walked on to the platform after they had all donned their masks.

She was Miss Cummings whom we should like to thank most sincerely for so willingly responding to the request to appear, and who managed to beat the Panel by her disguise of voice.

DECEMBER

Here we anticipate events as it is time to go to print. A Quizz to celebrate the Campion's Feast; a film "Tom Brawn's Schooldays" on the Xaverians' Feast. Draw for the Building Fund on December 1st. Who will be the lucky winners?

During the last week of the term the juniors are giving an entertainment, the Senior Forms II and III arc producing a Nativity Play "Et Homo Factus Est" and Carols will be sung by all Forms in the Chapel on the last Sunday of the Term.

We close our Diary, looking back with happy memories on an enjoyable School Year and hope that this record of its events will give pleasure to those who are no longer at school but very much a part of it in spirit.

A Happy and Holy Christmas to all!
