The "Pox" Cup was given by Miss Dunnett, the Studies Cup by Shelagh Hill (Smart), the House Conduct Cup by the Shorman family, the Elocution Cup by Yvonne Penn (Thiallier) and the Domestic Science Cup by Jean Walsh (Hughes). This year, a new and very attractively designed Cup will be competed for.
It has been presented by Ann Gallagher to be awarded to the pupil who does best at Art, Needework and Crafts. We welcome this generous gift, which will certainly prove an incentive to pupils who realise that they have little chance of achieving recognition for purely academic work.
Avril Tickle's surprise arrival, one afternoon, early in the year gave much pleasure to the Nuns. She is Staff Controller at a big store iii Southampton and seems happy to be back in England after having gained considerable experience in America. Teresa Lamb, at home on holiday from Canada was determined to come back to the Convent for one Friday afternoon Benediction.
Teresa is very happy across the Ocean and had a great deal to tell of her experiences. Peggy Robinson, having returned for a holiday after four years' teaching in Southern Rhodesia, was preparing for the return journey when she called. She has enjoyed the experience and decided to continue teaching there for the present.
Jean Sparrowhawk (Money) came to the Convent during the Nuns' Retreat. We were all very sorry to have missed seeing her and do hope she will come again when she is next in Bournemouth. Betty Simpson (Mason) brought Ann and Timothy to see Mummy's School one day and she has written several times. Mary Morton (Hennessy) was staying near Bournemouth during the summer holidays and visited us one day with her four children, who had grown very much since we saw them last.
Josephine Daly always manages to come for a chat when she is in Bournemouth and this time she was pleased to have the opportunity of seeing Reverend Mother McEvoy who happened to be in Boscombe when Josephine called. Dorothea Turner (Horsley) came that same week to make arrangements for Lesley to come to school as the family had now returned to Boscombe.
Susan Winsey and Angela Rickard, spending the week-end together, arrived one Saturday to see the Nuns. They had recently paid a visit to our Convent at Stakes with Ann Swinburne (Wyatt) and her small daughter Katherine. That same evening Clare Murray and Lorna Logan paid a flying visit but Clare came in again with Paula a short time afterwards and both had a good chat with the Nuns.
Josephine Downey who is now nursing at Christchurch Hospital gave news of Judith. Ann Carpenter whom we saw at the School Dance with her fiance John McKinney, Deirdre's brother, has sent this week, the announcement of their wedding for December 19th. Our good wishes are extended to them both.

The wedding day of Sheila and Moira McFadden to Michael Murray (Anna's brother and Peter Almack (Valerie's brother) was the occasion of many Past Pupils meeting in the Hall where the reception was held. Celia Joyce (Court) gave the Community a very pleasant surprise by calling in after the wedding for we did not know that she was on holiday in England.
Her sister, Marguerite, Mrs. E. Fetterman is still living in the U.S.A. Her last Christmas Card sent greetings from Anne, Paul, Moira, Ian and Claire, born in February 1957. Anna Murray was with Celia and it was good to see her after such a long time.
Ann Sherriff also came over from the Hall when the reception was over. Wendyann Johnston brought her fiance to the Convent where they gave us the good news that Wendyann was to be received into the Church before their marriage in November. Another unexpected visitor was Anita Woodeson who came in during the summer holidays to introduce her fiance.
Anita had just returned from Spain and was very eager to have news of her Form mates, especially Benita Kent (who took part in the Southsea Past Pupils' play at Boscombe), Claire Anderson, now nursing in Edinburgh and Rosemary Ennis. Rosemary is now continuing her Art studies at Bristol.
Pauline Grosser came to the Convent on the day of the Altar Servers' Raly as her fiance was taming part.
Mary Doran and her mother were good enough to fit in a visit to the Convent when they came to Bournemouth for Jean Duckham's wedding. Mary is very happy in her teaching post and seems to be very ambitious in her musical productions with young pupils.
She brought with her some very good photographs of the children in their costumes. Monica Danagher found her way over to the Senior School one morning, during her holiday in Bournemouth. She found many changes in the House since her last visit.
Janet Lennon arrived during the bustle of the Garden Fete, but seemed to enjoy the activity. Janet is almost at the end of her Medical course and was working during the vacation at Boscombe Hospital.
Jane Ferguson has spent some months in England and has just said "Good-bye" before returning to Dar-es-Salaam. Susan Northover is travelling with her as far as Mombasa. Diane Fitzhenry has emigrated to Australia.
We all trust that she will settle happily there. Veronica Quilty and Margaret Asling came in together, when they had come to Corpus Christi Garden Fete.
Yvonne Delanoe (Pindar) and her family were at Mudeford again this year but their visit in a party was not possible as some friends arrived just as the group was setting out, so Yannik, Maryvonne and Armelle came to represent the others. Margaret Manning (Brown) was here on the same day with Helen and Philip.
It is always interesting to meet Past Pupils who have gone abroad and return after some years for a holiday. Hazel Humphreys did a good deal of reporting in the Law Courts and in Canada. She is at present working in London.

Ann Burton who is nursing in Carshalton, comes to Bournemouth as often as her free time permits, as her Mother is living here. She never fails to come in for a chat with the Nuns and Form VI. Jennifer Coombes is a regular caller and we wonder how she manages to remember the Feast Days so well and to bring in flowers for the altar.
Kitty, her sister, Sister M. Godric is still in India, and Jennifer tells us that Kitty is very interested in the leper colony which she has visited several times as the Nuns save quite a number of lives by surgery. Barbara Kell can come in less often now as she is continuing her Dispensing course at Portsmouth, and Helen Symmons, now in Cardiff, manages a visit whenever she is at home.
Congratulations to Jennifer Day who came to tell us of her great joy at being awarded a Scholarship to the Royal College of Music.
Celia Elgar and Lorna Logan, having done a third year at Trinity College of Music after their two years at Digby-Stuart, are now teaching, the latter at the Convent of the Cross, East Cowes. Ines Lucantani has gained her A.R.C.M. and intends to take the I.R.A.M. Well done, Ines.
It is impossible to mention all the other visitors. Those who have left within the last two years are still in fairly close contact with one another so that there is less need to record their news here. We are always pleased to see them when they manage to come into School and they seem happy at our opportunity of coming back to their Alma Mater.
The Annual Dance is a real family affair and the staff welcome the opportunity of seeing some of their former pupils. During the course of the year Mrs. Jessop (Miss Gallo) and her little daughter, and also Mademoiselle Monclin visited Boscombe.
Mrs. Walsh (Miss M. Walsh), and Miss Stafford are always pleased to know what is happening at Boscombe and keep in touch by writing. At the School Dance it was a pleasure to see Mrs. Moyes and Nina. Our thanks are due to Miss Kelly for her efficient work as Dance Secretary.
Reverend Mother and the Community appreciate the kind thought which prompts so many Past Pupils to send Christmas and Feast-Day Greetings. They bring back many recollections which can be shared and enjoyed.
All members may be assured of a special place in the prayers of the Community at all times. but especially at Christmas. May the Infant Jesus bless each one and let us all face the New Year with confidence in His protection and grace.
A Very Happy Christmas to all.
