SEPTEMBER
The reopening seemed strange without the familiar presence of Reverend Mother Howe, who had always played such a vital part in the life of the school. When the School assembled for the presentation of badges to the Captains for the year, Mother Vicar (Mother d'Alancon) spoke to us of the debt which the School owes to Reverend Mother Howe, not only in the matter of material improvements, but still more to her personal enthusiasm and devotedness.
The best way in which we could show our appreciation, and the one which would please Reverend Mother most, would be loyalty and fidelity to the traditions of the Convent for which she had worked so many years.
Congratulations to those who received badges -

OCTOBER
As the increasing numbers in the school make it almost impossible for all to attend Mass together in the Convent Chapel, Father Baron very kindly gave permission for us to have the Mass of the Holy Ghost in Corpus Christi Church. This enabled Mother Egan to bring the older children from Holy Cross and we were all able to unite in the Holy Sacrifice and to hear the inspiring talk which Father Baron gave.
Having explained how God concerns Himself with our natural and supernatural needs, Father Baron traced this in the gradual development of our lives from childhood to adult life. He stressed particularly the acceptance of responsibility, a fact so ignored today, responsibility in the sense of preparing ourselves to earn and provide for ourselves - hence the necessity for a career - and still more responsibility for our actions and principles.
If our life is directed by impulse and mood, we are little better than the animals. The Holy Ghost, the Sanctifier, will give us the requisite strength to face up to life in this world and increase our holiness that we may be enabled to enter Heaven. Like Christ, we must grow in " wisdom, age and grace"; try to be of a graceful disposition, showing kindness and doing all "Ad maiorem Dei gloriam."
On United Nations Day we saw two most interesting films which showed the organisation, policy and achievements of NATO. To increase our knowledge of its splendid work, we hope to have the films describing what has been done in particular countries.
To close the month and to introduce Half-Term came the Annual School Dance, which was as well attended as ever. The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress (Councillor and Mrs. Brown) kindly presided, but we were also privileged to have a short visit from the Mayor and Mayoress (Alderman and Mrs. Barney). It was a special pleasure to see a past pupil (Joan Shoolbred) present in this place of honour.
Prizes for the Fancy Dress were awarded to the following:
1st, The Builders' Union (Three Little Pigs), D. Hausey, C. Herbert, J. Reed;
2nd, 'Scarecrow, J. Abbott;
3rd, Budgerigar, T. Sherman;
4th, Salad Days, B. Winterford.
NOVEMBER
The Stanislausians celebrated their Feast by the film, "Handel," which all enjoyed.
Preparations are being made for the Carols and Plays which will constitute an entertainment by both junior and Senior Schools. The proceeds from this production will be sent to the World Refugee Fund.
