The Portsmouth Committee, through your donations, is extremely supportive of 'Project Hope' and the people involved with it at Njinikom. This is just the sort of initiative which is going to make a real difference to the people of Bamenda.

In the 30 years of the link between the two Dioceses a great many projects have been supported but the AIDS crisis is the most challenging. Not only is AIDS an increasing cause of death but the social consequences are hampering economic development.

The more we can do to support the people of Bamenda with the various projects in which we are involved the greater will be our collective contribution to the 'Make Poverty History' campaign. Some examples of projects which are underway at present are:

Health Centre building at Ntasen
Health Centre buildings at Njindom and Babanki Tungo
Church construction at Ndop
Re-roofing of a church at Kezon
Water Project at Bambui
Construction work at Sajocah -centre for handicapped children/adults at Bafut
Supporting Sr Hedwig in her social work with ACAT Christians Against Torture
Support for Sr Rosalia in her work with prisoners in Bamenda goal
Support for Sr McElroy and the Family Life Centre in their work with family issues and AIDS counselling
Project Hope - the AIDS project at Njinikom Hospital
Laboratory building at Njinikom Hospital
Water project at Bamendakwe
Help with a primary school at Bayelle
In most of the construction programmes the local communities also raise their own funds so that the projects are a true partnership between Portsmouth and Bamenda.

If you, your parish or your school would like to raise money for any of these projects or would like more information please contact either myself or Elizabeth White, the Bamenda Committee Secretary.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity.

John Hughes

BAMENDA BULLETIN CLINICARE INTERNATIONAL

Our links with the Archdiocese remain firm and to date, (early September) we have sent 60 parcels containing medicines and equipment to a value of £40,476. The lion's share of this (f 18,733 ) has gone to the two hospitals, St. Martin de Porres at Njinikom and St. Elizabeth at Shisong, but in addition to the six health centres we traditionally supply we have this year sent the Archdiocesan Health Co-ordinator, Sr Chiara Longye £7,432 worth of supplies to assist her in equipping four new health centres.

A further 36 parcels containing supplies to the value of £23,546 have been sent to other centres in Cameroon and to hospitals in Uganda, Angola and Nigeria.

Postage costs have risen over the years and already this year our postage bill exceeds £5,500 The situation dictates that in future we concentrate on sending medicines as these are more economical to send.

It will be necessary to 'run down' our store of equipment We thank the Diocesan Bamenda Committee for their offer of assitance, but will refrain from calling upon them unless our own finances fail to improve. Peter Hatcher. Hon. Secretary
