Jesus Christ many times revealed Himself to her wanting through her to remind people about His wonderful mercy.
He said to St. Faustina:
"My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy."699
"Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy." Diary 300
"Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet."699
"My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world."1485
Lent is a time of preparation for the celebration of the greatest days in the liturgical year, called The Easter Triduum. We are also preparing for the Second Sunday of Easter called Divine Mercy Sunday.
Jesus said to Sr Faustina:
"I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy.
The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened."
During the canonization of Sr. Faustina, which took place on the Second Sunday of Easter in the year 2000, the Year of Great Jubilee, John Paul II announced that this Second Sunday of Easter would now be celebrated as Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the whole Church.
On that day we can gain plenary indulgence, granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father) if we take part, in any church or chapel, in the prayers and devotions held in honour of Divine Mercy, or if, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, we recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. "Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!").
We can make our confession on Divine Mercy Sunday or before it. But the most important thing is to be completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin. God promises to make us completely free from sins and punishment.
By the way, I would like to encourage you to make confession regularly, once a month, for example. It is indeed a great gift for each of us.
Merciful Jesus is still waiting for us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Once He said to Sr. Faustina:
"Daughter, when you go to confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came forth from My Heart always flows down upon your soul and ennobles it.
Every time you go to confession, immerse yourself entirely in My mercy, with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your soul.
When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I myself act in your soul." 1602
In preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday, Jesus asked St. Faustina to make a novena of prayer to The Divine Mercy commencing on Good Friday to the following Saturday.
Jesus made a great promise saying:
"By this novena, I will grant every possible grace to souls." 796.
Of course, we can pray the Novena not only before the Feast of The Divine Mercy but also throughout the year.
Jesus Christ revealed also to St Faustina the hour of great mercy - 3pm - the hour when He died on the cross.
He said to her: "At three o'clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony.
This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world. I will allow you to enter into My mortal sorrow. In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion." (1320)
Let us remember every day this holy hour of mercy. If it is possible we can make at this hour the Stations of the Cross or say any prayers - especially the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
Merciful Jesus Himself taught Sr. Faustina this special prayer attaching to it extraordinary promises:
"My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet. When hardened sinners say it, I will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one.
Write that when they say this chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Savior." (1541)
"Say unceasingly the chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation.
Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy. I desire that the whole world know My infinite mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy." (687)
Amen.
Father Mariusz Jarzabek of the Divine Mercy Apostolate.
