To provide for people's desire for annual masses, either for themselves or for dearly departed
loved ones, the following now operates in the Diocese of Portsmouth:-
1. For every offering of £100 (the minimum offering at the present time), made under this arrangement with the Diocesan Trustees (Portsmouth Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered) an annual Mass for the donor's intention will be offered in the Diocese for a period of 25 years.
2. The Donor should make the arrangements for the Mass with the Parish Priest of the Church where they wish the Mass to be offered. If they wish, they may request a given day for the annual Mass to be celebrated - their wishes will be carried out our far as possible. This is the source of the announcement made during Mass, "and the following whose anniversaries occur at this time."
3. The entire offering will be applied by the Diocesan Trustees for the benefit of the Parish in which the Mass is to be offered. During the 25 years in which the Mass is to be offered, the Priest celebrating the Mass receives the normal Mass offering from the income provided by the investment of the Donor's original offering.
4. For the purpose of making the bequest in a Will for a Foundation Mass, the following wording is recommended:-
' I direct my trustees to give to the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered, such sum as may be necessary an offering for a Foundation Mass to be celebrated annually for a period of 25 years, in the church of ............ and I direct that the receipt of the Diocesan Financial Secretary for the time being shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my Trustees'.
Any Priest in Sacred Heart Church will be happy to assist in this matter.
