A Brief Description of:         Bequest for a Parish.

All Parish churches continually find the money coming in is never enough to balance
the money going out.

The cost of lighting large buildings, the cost of heating a large building which is not used continuously. The cost or repair and renovations and the costs of paying staff - all reasons
that ensure the money flows out at a much faster rate than it flows in.

How does the Parish Priest cope?

One answer is the number of people who are willing to make Bequests to either the Diocese
or Parish and without such people coming forward, running a church community would be very difficult.
The recent refurbishment of Corpus Christi church was only made possible by this method.

A Bequest by a past member of the congregation allowed both present and future congregations
to enjoy a more attractive and comfortable church interior.

A Bequest can be a small or large amount - or anything in-between. It is one way members of the congregation use to say 'thank you' and to 'give something back'.

The Wording Used.

'I GIVE AND BEQUEATH to the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered the sum of £............. to be expended with the income thereof for such charitable purposes of the Parish of St. Thomas More Church, Bournemouth in the said Diocesan Trustees shall in their absolute discretion think fit and I DECLARE that the receipt of the Secretary to the said Diocesan Trustees or other duly appointed officer shall be a full discharge to my Trustees (Executors) for the sum hereby given and my Trustees (Executors) shall not be bound to see or enquire into the application thereof.'

This paragraph can simply be inserted into a Will already detailing other details of an Estate.

A large amount - or a small amount - whatever is given will be very gratefully accepted and used to continue to provide a service for others.
